Did you know that Ben Thanh Metro Station – the central hub connecting the entire Ho Chi Minh City Metro network, located right beneath District 1 – was constructed using diaphragm walls up to 58 m deep and 2 m thick? If not, please join Bachy Soletanche Vietnam on this proud journey of engineering excellence.

⦁ Construction period:Jan 2017 – Mar 2018
⦁ Scope: 1,612 m of diaphragm walls, 370 panels, thickness from 1.0 m to 2.0 m, depth from 39 m to 58 m
⦁ Scale: A central underground station with 4 basement levels, designed to connect future Metro Lines 1, 2, 3, and 4 – regarded as the “heart” of the entire HCMC Metro network.

+ Located at the busiest road intersections in Saigon, Ben Thanh Station was built under extremely confined and complex conditions.
+ The diaphragm wall system is the thickest and deepest ever constructed in Vietnam, requiring advanced technology and strict control of bentonite slurry to ensure absolute stability for the surrounding urban area.
+ For safety assurance, only the first panel was constructed as a trial to verify excavation stability before proceeding with full-scale panel installation.
+ The diaphragm walls were also designed with provisions for future stages, ensuring seamless connection and expansion of the station when Metro Lines 2, 3, and 4 are developed.

Ben Thanh Station is not only the start and end point of Metro Line 1 but also a symbol of urban transformation – linking the heritage of the past (Ben Thanh Market) with the modern rhythm of the future.
This project demonstrates Bachy Soletanche Vietnam’s pioneering position in foundation engineering and contributes to building a modern, sustainable urban transport infrastructure – a source of pride for the people of Ho Chi Minh City.

If you had the opportunity to visit the metro station, which detail would you be most excited to explore?
