Concrete tops the list of construction materials, and its global usage has increased 10-fold over the past 65 years. However, concrete is also one of the largest sources of CO₂ emissions—accounting for over 50% of total CO₂ emissions from the Soletanche Bachy Group.
📉 To reduce emissions, BSV implements two key strategies:
1️⃣ Reduce concrete volume through optimized design and technologies such as pile shaft grouting.
2️⃣ Lower emission factors by using concrete made with low-clinker cement and mineral additives such as Ground Granulated Blast-furnace Slag (GGBS) and fly ash—materials that emit significantly less CO₂ than clinker. Other supplementary materials include limestone filler, metakaolin, and silica fume. The use of low-clinker cement is a sustainable direction for cement manufacturers.
🔹 Exegy, the low-carbon concrete brand of Vinci and Soletanche Bachy, is a leading solution for eco-friendly concrete applications. Cement makes up only 12% of concrete’s mass but contributes up to 85% of its CO₂ emissions!
➡️ Using low-carbon concrete is the path to sustainability.
